Triffeny Blair must be one of the most quickly reformed teenagers in fiction, her desire to study art, preferably in Paris but certainly in London, successfully channelled into working at the pottery run by her great aunt, Tryphena Blair, in Craigs, just north of Colmskirk, where she has been brought up by her aunts, who are Beiths and the elder sisters of her dead mother. The villains are her cousin Phena and Phena’s accomplice, Habbie Tewson. Julia Lendrum who is now Sam Bartle’s  secretary, provides a role model for Triffeny.

This must have been a very special book for DFB as the Blairhill pottery and the adjoining house are based on the house called Triffeny where she lived from 1949 until her death.
