A Head Girl's Difficulties

 Author: Elinor M. Brent-Dyer

Publisher: Girls Gone By

Date: 2008

 Pages: 253

 Format: Paperback

Series: La Rochelle series, book 2

Description

Originally republished by Girls Gone By in 2002, this second book in Brent-Dyer's La Rochelle series quickly went out of print.  This new edition includes a new short story by Adrienne Fitzpatrick titled "The Gift" and an 11 page article by Sally Dore titled "Sentiment and Stoicism: Reactions to Children's Deaths".

The original book was published in 1923, two years before the first of the famous Chalet School series, and had the following words on its back cover:

"The head girl is Rosamund Atherton who holds office at St. Peter's for a year, during which the head mistress is absent as the result of an accident.  Her difficulties consist chiefly in the mischievous pranks of the Juniors and an outbreak of sentimentality.  Miss Brent-Dyer's young people talk and behave naturally and she avoids most of the usual cliches of the girl's school story."
